CBU has a strong reputation for engaging students in research in diverse fields including molecular spectroscopy, petroleum research, analytical chemistry, computational chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and biochemistry. The presence of a strong research program in the Department of Chemistry was highlighted by the fact that fourteen undergraduate researchers attended the 2009 APICS/CIC Atlantic Chemistry Undergraduate Student Conference held at St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, NS in May. The Department of Chemistry is pleased to announce the following promotions and renewal, effective July 1, 2009. Dr. Allen Britten (Analytical Chemistry, Dean of Science) has been promoted to Full Professor. Dr. Godwin D’Cunha (Biochemistry) has been promoted to Associate Professor. Dr. Matthias Bierenstiel (Inorganic Chemistry) has been promoted to Associate Professor and granted a renewal of his tenure-track position.

The Department of Chemistry is pelased to announce the establishment of the Drs. Paula Michalik & David Sneddon Chemistry Scholarships in recognition of two respected professors who will retire from the University this year. Members of the CBU Chemistry Faculty have contributed to establish the award through fundraising efforts within the department. |
